Crafted three centuries ago in Cremonia, northern Italy, the violin will be played for the first time at the BBC Proms by South Korean violinist Inmo Yang.

The violin was acquired by a philanthropic group for US$20 million and will be showcased at the Royal Albert Hall in London on August 28.

Inmo Yang, who is also making his debut at the Proms, expressed his amazement at having the opportunity to play such a historic instrument.

The Stretton Society, a network of philanthropists, patrons, and sponsors, loaned the violin to Yang, aiming to support leading musicians with rare and valuable instruments.

The violin, made by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu in 1743, is one of the few remaining instruments of this kind and is considered a masterpiece among all violins.

Yang will perform a virtuoso piece for the violin called "Carmen Fantasy" at the festival, showcasing the unique and rich character of the instrument's sound.
