After the teams lost their opening matches at the weekend, there's a chance they could both be effectively knocked out of the tournament today.

Defending champions England could be eliminated if they lose to the Netherlands, whilst Wales need at least a point against France to avoid going out of the tournament with a group game still to play.

England's Lionesses are the reigning European champions, having won the title in 2022.

They started the defence of their Euro's title against France.

However, things didn't quite go to plan and the Lionesses lost the game 2-1.

The result meant that England became the first defending champions in women's Euros history to lose their opening game of a following tournament.

The Lionesses now play the Netherlands in their second group game on Wednesday night.

Striker Alessia Russo said that the team are feeling positive despite the result.

She explained: 'Ultimately we don't like losing but when a result like that happens you have to reflect and come together as a team.'

We have bounced back before. We know we weren't up to it against France. For our own standards, we want to be better.'

England manager Sarina Wiegman admitted that the Netherlands match is a must-win game:

'It's a final for us, we will do everything to win. Every game is must-win. We've experienced that before.'

The Lionesses face the Netherlands in Zurich at 5pm UK time.

Wales are making their first appearance at the Women's Euros, having never made it to a major tournament before.

Their first match was against tough opponents, the Netherlands, who won the tournament in 2017.

The Netherlands were on the attack from the very start, dominating the game and won 3-0.

Wales go up against France in their second game on Wednesday.

Captain Angharad James feels confident that Wales can produce an improved performance this time round.

'Emotions were obviously high in the first game. We'd waited a very long time for that moment.

'To run out of the tunnel and experience that was maybe an experience that a lot of us hadn't experienced before. Now we know what to expect, now we know what's in front of us,' James said.

Wales manager Rhian Wilkinson added: 'It's about delivering as strong a performance as we possibly can to have another opportunity to show Wales how proud we are to represent our country.'

Wales play France in the Swiss city of St. Gallen at 8pm UK time tonight.

The Netherlands will go through to the quarter-finals if they beat England and France avoid defeat by Wales.

France will progress if they beat Wales and England fail to beat the Netherlands.

Defending champions England will be out if they lose to the Netherlands and France are not beaten by Wales.

Wales will be eliminated if they lose to France and the Netherlands get a positive result against England.

If teams finish on the same number points after three group matches, then it will come down to head-to-head records to decide the two qualification spots.
